Purity of Heart

Psalm 86:11 Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth!  Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you.

What is purity?  Websters dictionary defines purity as the state of being pure.   When I think of purity, I think of a perfectly white dress or shirt.  There are no blemishes at all on them.  Once you put them on though there is no way that you can keep them perfectly clean.  No matter how hard you try that shirt or dress will always end up dirty.

It is the same way with our hearts.  No matter how hard we try we cannot have a perfect or unblemished heart.  Our heart is full of sin.  The only way that we can have an unblemished or pure heart is if we allow God's truth to permeate it.  God's truth can be found in His Word.  As we read and meditate on the Word, we will find that we become more focused on what He wants and desires.  The more that we want and desire to live for God, the more we honor him.  That is the ultimate goal, to honor God.

Today, I want to live for God more than I did yesterday.  Tomorrow, I want to live for him more than I did today.  May I always be focused on living according to the truth that God has laid out in His Word.

About Me

I am a former soldier in the United States Army. I have deployed to Afghanistan once and to Iraq twice. I feel that I have been called by God to serve Him where I am and to do it joyfully. This can be hard at times. This blog is not about where the Army has taken me but what I read in Scripture and where God is taking me along my spiritual journey. I hope that you will glean information from what I write and will be blessed as God blesses me.
