Lifting up Holy Hands

JOB 11:13-17
¹³“If only you would prepare your heart
and lift up your hands to him in prayer!
¹⁴ Get rid of your sins,
and leave all iniquity behind you.
¹⁵ Then your face will brighten with innocence.
You will be strong and free of fear.
¹⁶ You will forget your misery;
it will be like water flowing away.
¹⁷ Your life will be brighter than the noonday.
Even darkness will be as bright as morning.

I remember when my son was very little.  Whenever he wanted something or when he was scared because he was alone he would run and try to find me.  He would then raise his arms up for me to pick him up.  He would drop everything else and would reach for his daddy.  When he did that I would pick him up and comfort him.  He would forget whatever was making him sad and he would become happy again.

That is the way it is with our Heavenly Father.  When we are in trouble, we need to run to Him and reach out for Him.  In reaching out to Him with arms open wide, we drop everything that would interfere with our relationship with Him.  God wants us to want Him.  He just doesn't want anything else in the way.
