Mentors

Psalm 16:3 The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them!

Over the past 20 years I have spent a lot of time trying to surround myself with heroes.  These heroes were Godly men and women who spent their life living what they believed.  I spent lots of time at church trying to glean all that I could from them .  The one thing that I felt that I lacked though was a mentor.  Now I have had other mentors in my past.  There are those who mentored me while I was in the military.  There are those who mentored me when I was much younger.  I remember specifically someone who I truly respect and love even to this day.  His name is Johnny Lawler.  He was the hero who helped lead me to the cross of Calvary.

As I proceed down this path that I call life, I have seen that I want and need someone who has been where I stand.  I need someone that is further along in his journey.  I am thankful to have hopefully found that man.  He is a missionary and has been one for over 35 years.  He is a very Godly man and has the ultimate calling to reach every man, woman, and child with the Gospel of Christ.  I am very thankful that I have been blessed to call Gary Bowman my mentor and friend. 

I write all of this, not to specifically talk about my mentor, but to encourage you to find someone who you can trust and who is further along in their journey to be mentored by.  They can help give you advise when you need it or they can help pray for you in times of need.  Either way, find a godly man (if you are a man) or woman (if you are a woman) and allow them to influence your life for the cause of Christ.
